So many charities are worthwhile and need support. Most small businesses can’t get behind every charitable event that arises. The other problem is that many well known charities/causes/organizations are so overblown and media hyped it is hard to tell where your true donation or fundraising efforts are going.
I like to support the small community efforts for the most part. Feeding, clothing, sheltering and providing medical treatment to our neighbors and local animal humanitarian organizations creates a strong sense of well being within the community, reflects our charitable actions visibly and provides recognition to local businesses…establishing a sense of mental as well as physical comfort.
There are many regional, national and global efforts I feel we should get behind as a country for medical research, after natural disasters or acts of terrorism but I still believe responsibility works from your core. A strong and healthy community is able to work together to support the greater needs of our country and the world.

Excellent points! Everyone should consider their local organizations and do due diligence before donating.
