It’s sleek. It’s what the cool kids are using or where they are hanging out. And who doesn’t want to be cool? Or better yet, who doesn’t want their brand to be cool?

The cool place seems to continuously move and well, if you blink twice it may have just relocated once again. Do you move or do you stay? Or just hang back to see where everyone goes next?

So you do it. You move right in to the latest platform. Testing it out. Inviting your friends. Listening to experts tell you why you should stay or jump ship to another one. You go from Vine, to Instagram to Meerkat and to Periscope.

While I love the viewpoints of those who really know the industry, those I consider way smarter than I; it is worth noting to the average user, you need to carefully evaluate all platforms to determine which to use to expand your brand.

I mean let’s think about it. Just when experts were trying to convince brands today’s viewers only want short videos, like on Vine or Instagram and longer videos on YouTube are falling out of style, in walks Meerkat and Periscope. Apparently we do have the capacity to watch video footage for longer than mere seconds after all. Perhaps it really is about the content being shared and if it appears of interest to the viewer within the first several seconds or minutes.

As we have seen, Periscope, a Twitter mobile application which allows users the ability to stream what is going on in their world for extended periods of time, was winning the attention of live streaming video platform fans. Then Blab.im appeared. I have seen people who normally spend their time on Periscope, practically live on Blab now. Minutes gone forever by the new platform. But it really isn’t a competitor to Periscope, but for Google Hangouts.

If social media were poker, Blab just upped the ante on Google with good cards in hand. Why not stream 4 different people together in large blocks on the screen and add instant messaging to the group video chat? Indeed, Blab is picking up where Google left off. However, for many, this is not a surprise. Failing to listen to complaints and suggestions from its users, perhaps Google is ok with a new platform coming on the block. But it is probably too soon to count out Google Hangouts. Blab still has some growing of their fan base and potentially new features to consider.

While I am impressed with the ease of use of the platform, I turned to colleagues from various groups online to hear their pros and cons on Blab and how they compared it to Google Hangouts.

Want to know what they said or what I think about the new platform?

Come back next week.

(Cue The Clash’s song, “Should I Stay or Should I Go”.)

Yep. You will need to come back next week to read my pros and cons and the thoughts of other expert social media users of the platform. You do not want to miss out what we have to share.

Have you tried out Blab.im yet? If so, leave your comments below. Perhaps we will add you to next week’s post.

How Technology Changed Our Marketing Efforts

The evolution of technology has definitely been an endless one. Over the years we have seen advancements in every industry imaginable due to the newest ideas, gadgets, apps, and the list goes on. The marketing industry has definitely benefited from the numerous technological advancements. With the new strides that social media applications have been taking, the marketing industry has been able take off in a new direction. Now more than ever we see successful brands and marketing professionals directing their attention and efforts towards popular social media websites as a way to directly reach the masses and control the messaging. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are only a few; the list is constantly growing with new platforms vying at a chance to get a piece of the advertising pie. Taking a closer look at popular media trends, we see how much of an impact they’ve made on brand recognition.

Here are three trends you cannot ignore if you want your brand to be successful thanks to technology.

  1. Vine and Instagram seemed to have knocked down the most doors when it comes to successful advertising attempts. The both of these methods have a very short, straight to the point method about them which makes it easier for viewers to get stuck into viewing hundreds of Vine videos and Instragram posts for hours at a time. Why wouldn’t marketers jump on this opportunity? While numerous brands have established themselves on Instagram already, only a few brands such as Trident, Samsung, Oreos, and Dunkin Donuts have been successful with creatively marketing themselves through the six-second Vine videos. Dunkin Donuts did a great job with their re-enactment of a NFL play, gaining lots of attention from viewers.
  2. dos equis above promotions company pr digital marketing tampa fl Memes have also had a creative impact on marketing strategies. Memes have sparked wildfires across social media outlets and have ultimately become a source of entertainment. Great memes are very quick to the point, humorous, and easily sharable. These each serve as a major plus in the mind of a marketer. A great example of a meme that took the internet by storm is Dos Equis with “the most interesting man in the world”. After the launching of their commercials and website many users took to re-creating the image of Jonathan Goldsmith with their own messages. This indeed helped the brand gain widespread recognition because regardless of the message, the man pictured was undoubtedly associated with Dos Equis.
  3. Live videos have been around for a while now thanks to YouTube, but users are now looking to YouTube for reasons other than entertainment. YouTube has now become a way for small business owners to market their products through live demonstrations. In return, users are conducting their own reviews of the products giving the brand more recognition and new consumers. Small business owners within the hair industry have greatly benefited from these simple to produce YouTube videos as many women continue to search for that perfect hair product.

These three trends have changed marketing strategies greatly. Businesses are constantly being challenged to attempt to keep up with the fast paced social media world that technology has brought about. Instagram/Vine videos, live videos, and memes are only a few of the major successes. Within the blink of an eye, more and more advancements are arising. As a business owner or brand manager, it is imperative that you remain up to date with the newest technological advancements to stay ahead of the game with all marketing efforts to keep your brand in peoples’ mouths. It is indeed a constant race we are running to stay on top of the game.

Millions of people tune into the NFL’s Super Bowl every year. If you’re not having a party, then perhaps last week’s tips of 4 Ways to Take Your Super Bowl Party Digital may not help you for this weekend. However, this week’s tips will give you three topics to help you increase engagement and win at gaining new followers before, during or after the big game.

These three topics are:

  1. Food. Some people leave the home just for game day food they don’t normally partake in the rest of the year. So find a way to engage your fans in food commentary. If you’re in fashion, you can discuss which foods to avoid if you’re wearing light colors. If you’re an artist, you can talk about which foods look good to eat. There are many food angles all types of businesses can take advantage of on Super Bowl Sunday.
  2. The actual game. This one may be tough for those who are not football aficionados, but let’s just give thanks now for the sports broadcasters who do know what they are talking about. Now we don’t recommend you attempting to tackle big plays being reviewed, but the basics of some record being broken or how the weather affects the players, can easily be discussed.
  3. Commercials. Advertisements are just as big these days as the actual game. Bring up business’ ads that complement your services or products that air. If you’re an insurance agent, tie your posts to those ads. If you’re a music artist, discuss how catchy you find a jingle or your opinions on the half-time show.

There are so many ways you can get involved, but be careful of a few things:

  1. The speed in which you plan to keep up with replies to your posts. If you want to enjoy the game like the rest of the world, we recommend choosing to post before or after the event. Social media during events like this is only successful if you can be  as real-time as the users chatting with you.
  2. Remember, Facebook and Instagram are not about filling your feed with several posts within a short time frame. You don’t want to lose current fans by trying to obtain new ones through racing to fill their screen.
  3. Twitter can help you if you’re looking to do a lot of chatting on Sunday. Plan ahead though with some of your tweets.
  4. No matter which you select, opt to not pre-schedule posts. It would not look good for you to post a congrats on a game that is still going on.

These tips should help you to come out on top no matter if the Broncos (or Seahawks) win.
